At each of our monthly events, we promote the amazing work that is being undertaken by organisations in our local community. Previously we have supported Lesley’s Care Packages for the Homeless and The What Centre for young people. This month we have chosen Dudley Soup as they are not only doing fantastic work across the borough to support local communities but they are also holding their next ‘Soup’ meeting in Stourbridge at St Thomas’ Church Hall on Thursday 21st September at 6.30pm.
Helen from SOUP will be at the next Street Food Affair on 1 September to raise awareness of SOUP. Look out for Helen in her ‘SOUP’ T-shirt as she walks about talking to people and giving out information to promote SOUP.
Who Are Dudley Soup
SOUP is a crowdfunding dinner concept that’s come all the way from Detroit to the Dudley Borough. The audience, who have paid a fiver to get in, listen to four people, who have grass roots projects that aim to help their local community, present their project/idea and their reasons for needing funding. The audience gets to ask 4 questions to help them understand the project, and then once the 4 projects have been presented everyone shares in soup, bread and cake and discuss the projects.
Everyone then votes for their favourite project and the winner gets the money that everyone donated on the door – no questions asked, no red tape – just a nice wedge of cash for their project. Past winners include an upcycle project, a recovering substance misuser who helps other people in a similar and an elderly people’s Tea Party and they’ve all walked away with over £300!
The audience is usually a wide mix of people from across the borough, young and old, and it’s a really great, friendly evening, so if you live in Stourbridge why not consider coming along and find out for yourself what they do.
